A couple of weeks ago we were invited to lunch by the neighbour up the hill. It was a beautiful day filled with the most amazing food and good times. We even got to experience meat grilled on a stone! For us, the Icelanders just the sight of it was awesome. We got stuffed with the best newly baked foccacia, pizza, roasted potatoes, meat, beer, wine, cake, fruit oh…just thinking about it brings water to our mouths. As if that wasn’t enough, we went home from the lunch date with a “stufa” (yes, he gave us his old wood burning stove!) and some freshly fire baked bread (yum!).
Just as we got home that afternoon, our other neighbour stopped us on the stairs and told us that they were going to roast chestnuts that evening and that we should come. And so we did, and enjoyed the most fantastic evening with open fire and chestnuts roasting, happy children playing (without being able to understand each other) and stopping every once in a while to steal a little something from the table.
We do have the best people around us here. And while the system seems to be failing us, they keep us alive and keep us believing in the the heart of the nation, the people.
Here’s to good people!
